Boston In Fast Forward

If the wind blows from the right direction you have the landing planes of the Logan Airport directly over your head and on a clear evening, like this you have an incredible view on the skyline of Boston in the dusk.

Today I’ve brought Janine and Jessy to the airport. The last 10 days unfortunately are gone that fast that I cannot imagine. But it was funny, exiting and lovely and their visit was a nice alternation. I love you sweetheart! And I love you sister in law!

From a weather point of view the Wednesday wasn’t that good. Foggy in the early morning, wet and rainy in the afternoon. A perfect day to do something for the education and to visit a museum. We chose the John F. Kennedy Library which is located in the area of the University of Massachusetts Boston. (Now you know what the abbreviation U-Mass means if you see Bill Cosby the next in a sweater with the word on it) A little explanation: To every president of the United States a library is dedicated. The one of John F. Kennedy stands in Boston, since he was once Senator of the state of Massachusetts. The library is a kind of memorial of his life, from his childhood, the early days in politics, the rise as a politician until his tragical death. Since the rain hadn’t stopped in the afternoon we went to Salem, just 30 minutes North on the Route 1, where we visited the Salem Witch Museum. It describes the time in the 17th century when people had been accused as being witches. It was kinda nice, how they described the circumstances 300 years ago, but what was really interesting was the fact that they tried to teach about similarities to the present, of how people are treated who a different and how prejudices arise through this.

Well, there’s only one place to be when you’re visiting the Boston area for the first time: Boston downtown. Good for us that parking in the Boston Common Garage is only $10 flat rate on the weekend. The “normal” rates for downtown parking within the week are not very healthy for my budget ;) Passing the State House we walked through Beacon Hill towards the Charles River Park where the shot you see on the left was taken. From there we walked back on the edge of the Common through the theatre district and the financial quarter to the Faneuil Hall and the Quincy Market in the North End. We definitely haven’t seen all parts of the town, but it seemed to me that the girls were really impressed by the flair of the “city of walkers”.

After waiting for Rene, who decided to have late breakfast at Penera Bread (Asian weeks right? *g*) we hit the road again. This time to Nahant, an island right in the Bay of Boston. Our plan to go swimming was blocked by the parking situation and the more rocky than sandy beaches on Nahant. But I could finish my project “Atlantic” at Revere Beach, were I took my first bath in the ocean. Fresh, convenient and alone – unfortunately! The others were only ankle-deep in the water.

It was 5.30 am when my phone woke me up. The reason for that is better explained when I start with yesterday afternoon. Actually I wanted to say goodbye to Suzie, Leo and Vivien – they are going back to their former home in Ft. Lauderdale in Florida (Niels will follow in July). But my short visit became an invitation to a last and very nice sushi dinner in a Japanese restaurant. Unfurtunately I forgot to recharge my cam, so that I couldn’t record my first sushi experience. That’s why we decided, that it definitely wasn’t the last dinner together ;) Anyway, I promised to bring them to the airport this morning and so I did. I wish you all a wonderful time in your “old” new home!

And again a nice guy is leaving. This evening I brought Rene to the airport. He left after four weeks staying in Woburn. We did a couple of cool things together and our favorite place to dinner and having cocktails was of course TGI Fridays. Remember the night at the cinema together with Danny? ;) I hope we’ll meet another time in Germany or somewhere else. Have a good flight and thanks again for the food!

Cricket in Dorchester

At first, sorry for the delay. I had a full work schedule this week and was busy with sleeping and recovering than writing blog entries, so don’t be mad with me. Anyway last saturday a few colleagues, their families and me were at a cricket tournament in Dorchester, South Boston. This anual tournament is organized for several companies playing against each other for fun. It was really hot that day: 95° fahrenheit (35° celsius) and high humidity. The only place where to stay was under the tent or in the climatized car ;) In the later afternoon Rene and me went to Wrentham Village, an outlet store about an hour from Woburn.
